WS6 11-16-2002, 05:48:00 PM What seems to be in question? 1Q87U7L563129 is a correct VIN format for 1977. 1 - Chevrolet Division Q - Camaro 87 - 2 dr hardtop U - Engine code for 305 V8 engine 7 - Model year 1977 L - Final assembly plant is Los Angeles 563129 - Production serial number starting at 500001 and going up at each plant. MadMike 11-19-2002, 12:23:00 AM Check the rear axle code. If it's coming from a 1974 era vehicle you're about to get "the buziness". It's easier to check the rear end code or axle ratio than pull the heater cover box or a/c box off the firewall to check the partial vin. Look in the rocker panel area for torch marks where 2 cars were welded together. Finally, this is highly questionable, but not 100% completely bogus. I saw a mid 70's car with t-tops a couple days ago. Someone welded them on after the fact. I've seen other cars cobbled together. If the job is done right, then there's no problem. But often times the job's not done right. Or the car was stolen. One young member who used to be here bought himself a camaro and about a month later the cops came and took it away. And didn't give him his money back. That sux.
