If this was a real Z28 wouldn't there be an 8 on the trim tag under the A51?

The car has the fender flares, AI hood, 5-spokes and proper emblems. Everything else on the tag matches what I saw. I'm guessing it is not a Z but I figure I'd ask anyway. :)

i know that the norwood ohio plant had Z 28 stamped in the trim tag....not sure on the cali cars

i think the 350 ci engine caps it that it is a Z28 . your sure its a" L " right ( 7th place in the vin )?

Are you sure that the last number on the tag is T3924643 and not T8924643?

That second position in this number would be where we expect to find an "8" for a Van Nuys Z28.

I believe that in 81, the 350 was available only on Z28.

Thanks Gary. The pic I have is poor and the tag was illegible with dirt and such, I cleaned it with a napkin. Of course that is the only code I did not write down. I thought all of that was unknown.

Looking at it again it looks like this: T3824?432.

According to your page T&3 make sense since both of those are correct. I think at quick glance it looked like a 4 in the pic, except the 5th digit also looks like 4 but is a different font. Digit #3 must be 8 if the options are 8=Z28, S=Berlinetta, Z=RS, blank or dash=Sport Coupe.

I'd agree on this. Decoding it this way, there are still 6 digits after the 8, and those 6 digits are the sequence number.
To me, it is definitely a Z28.

350 is only available in the Z28 in 1981.
Plus it has the 8 vaguely on the tag.
It's a Z.

305 was the base motor on the Z in 81, with the 4 speed. 350 was available with the automatic only.
