My 70 shows 01384 D for the transmission ID on the protecto plate

wondering if someone can de-code this to M21- M 22 ??

That number seems wrong. It doesn't follow the sequence the books call for.
My 70SS tranny number on the protect-o-plate is P0C17A

P=Muncie
0=1970
C=March
17=17th day of month
A=M20
This is the sequence called for by Colvin and other reliable decoding sources.

Thanks Gary, I found the number P0D20 so I take it from your explanation
P muncie
0 1970
D April
20 20th day

Much appreciated !

There should be a letter code after the numbers you listed. For M20, it would be A, for M21 it would be B, for M22 it would be C. That would identify the tranny ratio for you.

Thanks Gary, thats what I'm looking for but theres no letter on my protecto plate, will have to look on the tranny maybe
on the PP over a bit on the same line is a 113 not sure what that means and thats it
then the next line says 01-384 then a D GM owners name etc.

This is what a 70 Muncie looks like from Norwood...The Protect-o-Plate doesn't include the last letter.

P Muncie
0 model year 1970
A month January
21 day of month 21st
B close ratio

My 70 Van Nuys Protect-O-Plate does have the A code on it for my M20. Apparently Norwood and Van Nuys did this different too.

Van Nuys was a GMAD plant. Norwood was an old Chevrolet run Plant. They did not operate the same.

GMAD - GM Assembly Division formally B-O-P assembly Division. Later on all Chevrolet plants came under control of GMAD.
