8= (should be a "B" =model year 1981, 02B= Built February,1981 second week, 1FP87= Model designation, Camaro 2dr. coupe, N= Assembly plant, Norwood, Ohio, 186625= body unit number, 26B= Dark Blue cloth interior trim, 11L 11U= White exterior color, lower and upper. L= Laquer paint. A51= bucket seats. Z28= Z28, A31= power windows, BU2= interior color (dash top, steering column) Blue. 990126= 99= day into production, 99th day (or 199th) day into 1981 production. 0126= body sequence # (?)

Awesome! Thanks chris77, I figured out some of these but not all, much appreciated! The VIN # doesn't match the cowl #. Is it a mutt?

The VIN never matches the cowl tag because the number on the cowl tag is for the body shell, and the VIN is the legal number for registering the car.

It sounds legit.
