Looking for a litt/ lot of help decoding my newly found gem. Its a 1971 Z28 I think...born in Van Nuys CA. This is what I can tell you Tach shows redline @6.5k Max 8k high back front seats I think rear end is correct sway bar mounted 10bolt axle #CGG232 W 1. no build sheet. Question what do the two 6 digit numbers mean below the trim tag???? I would like to say that this site drings a lot of great info to the table. I currently am finishing a ground up resto on a 66 Chevelle Malibu, when this Z28 fell into my lap...and as a chey guy I could not pass her by. Thanks 79shovel

those are body sequence #s from the body shop and don't mean anything . unfortunately the LA camaros in 70 and 71 had no identifiers on the TT or in the vin . you have to go by a preponderance of the evidence . floor mounted gas pedal in the 70 and 71 is a good start . z28s also had the HD cooling option as part of the Z28 option and all z28 will have the large radiator opening ( 26" ) as opposed to the standard ( 21" )

no build sheet.
When you say "no build sheet" is it because you were not provided one by the seller when you bought it or you've looked and haven't found one? LA cars were good about having build sheets either under/behind the rear seats or on top of the gas tank.

add to the list of evidence the OP referenced 8K tach, plus aluminum spacer blocks on LCA bumpers, F41 suspension (most easily ID'd by rear sway bar), posi rear (CG codes out as a 3.73:1 ratio but I don't show notes on whether or not it is posi...plus the code provided by OP does not have an "E")

Thanks for all the suggestions,no gas tank in this purchase, plus I have checked in and around all the seats, even under the rear hardback panel behind both buckets. Either way I think I have a true Z28 California car. I know If I have any further questions this is the place!!! Thanks for all your help. 79shovel
