Using THIS picture as a diagram... this is what I found..
http://216.121.161.76/files/SBCCastNumbers.jpg
Where it says CAST NUMBER, on my car it says... "3970010" and there is no "GM" printed there.
Where it says DATE CODE, mine actually just says "K" (big letter).
Where it says TIME / SHIFT CODE, mine actually just says "2" (big letter).
I am unable to get the other two things..
Serial Number and Design Number, I think maybe I have to remove the intake manifold to do that.
Can you guys tell me anything about my motor?
Thanks!!!
Todd

That number looks like 3970014 to me. Are you sure that's a "0" on the end?

Using THAT picture won't tell you much...
3970010 blocks were used from '69 to '79. Most probably a 350. You need to go to the opposite corner of the block - the machined pad in front of the passenger side head, behind the alternator - and get the numbers/letters there.

I'm pretty psyched that I know roughly what kind of engine it has. When looking up that number 3790010, it says basically.. the lowest power version of this block that was ever released put out at LEAST 185 horsepower. And that's probably in stock form with smog pump, stock exhaust manifolds, etc etc.
Mine at least has hooker headers on it, as well as a whole plethora of other cool performance things like intake and carb.
It would be sweet if mine turned out to be the 370 horsepower VETTE engine!!

Gary is correct. The picture of that end of the block says absolutely nothing about what it came out of.
As far as the 3970010 Block, it was either a 2 Bolt or a 4 Bolt. Depended on what it went into actually which determined if it recieved a 2 or 4 bolt bottom end.
And in any case if all you have is just the block, (unless you are restoring a Z28 or SS) it really does not matter what it came out of, you need all the other goodies to make it something special.

The # looks from here like 3970014 as somebody already said. 3970014 is a 70-76 350 and applies to both 2 and 4 bolt main engines.
