I have purchased a 1970 Camaro, (SS ???), can anyone tell me if it is an SS, here is the Cowl Tag

ST70 12487 NOR248912BDY
TR724 48 48 PNT
03E

She has the following: 12 bolt rear, Deluxe Interior, Hideaway Wipers, No A/C, Big Block 402, TH400, SS Steering Wheer and when I pulled the rear spoiler off the Camaro Emblem on the Trunk.

Thanks for your help.

What is the engine code on the 402?
Right now, I'd be inclined to think the car is not a SS, but if the motor codes as a SS engine and that cars vin is on it as well, then I guess it could be a SS.

Without the L78 or the L34 code on the trim tag I would have to say no to the SS. A noorwod car should have something on it. My 71 has the LS3 as well as the Z27, which may or may not be on the 70 cars.

Since you said it has a 402, check for the rear stabilizer bar. That was only on Z28's and big blocks. It's a PIA to put in the brackets for the bar, so most people wouldn't bother. If you have it, there's a good chance you have a genuine SS. As far as the spoiler, that was standard only on the Z28, it was an option for the SS. But it does bother me that the Camaro emblem was underneath it. I don't think they would do that at the factory. If the spoiler were added later, that's no big deal.

You can't really trust the rear swaybar as an indicator because it was available as F41 option on any car.

In addition to that, some of the 1970 model cars that did not have a rear swaybar, did have the upper frame brackets welded onto the frame so on these cars it was an easy bolt-on installation to add the swaybar.

I know, because I have a 70ss350 that I bought new without F41, and it had all the necessary frame brackets welded to the subframe to bolt on the rear swaybar.

If it doesn't have the sway bar than it isn't original. Just check the block numbers and that will tell you if it is original.
