ok, my question is this, from 1970-1973 my books show that tuxedo black was only available in 1971, is this true? the reason i ask, is that my 71 is an SS model, and it is/was originaly black [ 19/19 ] and it seems strange to me that 71 was the only year that black was offered as an exterior color, what gives? also, the SS emblems have a flat black insert, rather than a white insert [ fenders only, grille has a white insert ] and my assembly manual shows an SS emblem on the rear, but i see no reference to this anywhere for a part number, is this a 'typo drawing', or is there such a thing? and should my SS fender emblems have a black insert?

It's no typo, black was only offered in '71,and then around '77 or so.

that seems weird, but i guess that is good news, how many 71 SS cars were black i wonder? i wonder how 'rare' the car i have really is, if at all.

I've seen a couple of code 19 cars recently, also the color could be special ordered by the customer as well. A good example of this is on a 70 Z28 I was looking at in MI, the guy has the original window sticker and invoice where it shows the special order paint. So who really knows at this point how many cars are out there.
