ok we just rented a garage for my dads mercedes to spend the winter and what do you think is laying in the corner of the room?
14010207 4 bolt block... the pistons are siezed in their bores but the crank and rods look good. ie/ no rust and still oily... the pan and heads arent there but otherwise is complete... my question is what are the chances the crank is a steely or forged. i had a look at it and dont see any numbers at all..dont want to waste my time taking apart if its not worth it. the block isnt worth anything to me and the rest of will be scrap also but i need a crank. any theories that say all truck 4bolts had steel cranks?

No all truck 4 bolts do not have steel cranks. Steel crank for a 350 is usually a 1182 casting number. It is on a counterweight edge. The best way to tell if it is steel is by the parting line. It is the line that goes down the length of the crank, you should be able to see it on any counterweight. If it is narrow 1/8 inch or less it is cast. If it is wide 1/4 or wider it is forged. Cast ones are usually rough textured, steel is smoother. Also the parting line is usually ground down on the steel, cast on is so small grinding was unnecessary. Hope that helps. Nothing wrong with a cast crank for your average motor. I've used them up to 7500 rpm in a 350 without problems.
