I am looking for a 10 bolt 3:42 posi out of a second gen. Housing and all. I was wondering if there is a way I could find out the ratio without popping the dify cover. I've been told there is a number stamped on the pass. side axel housing that could be decoded to give me the ratio. Is this true, even so, is there an easier way to find out?
One more question. What type posi would it be. I have seen various versions, such as a clutch style, to a 'gear' driven. Sorry, I don't know the correct terminology, I am new this site and this is my first car I am building.

Thanks
Brad

80Z28,
The 3.42 limited slip axle for Camaros from 77-81 will have either a "2PY" (1977) or a "PY" (1978-81) stamped on the front of the axle on the passengers side.

Pop the cover anyway. MY rear axle is coded PY (cause it was a 3.42)... but the rear ratio is 4.10 now. surprise surprise.
