does any body know if all TA rear ends were posi units? I have found one that is wrecked. The engine and trans are gone, but the rear end is still there. It has a sway bar on the back but it doesn't have disc brakes. If nothing else I will take the sway bar. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

It is easy to check for posi. Just turn one wheel forward. If the opposite wheel also goes forward, it is a posi. If the opposite wheel goes backward, it is not a posi. (assuming no driveshaft connected to the rear)

That being said, you also need to know that most of the Trans Ams came with 2.56 or 2.41 rear gears which really suck in a high performance car. If you are building a highway driver and have an automatic tranny, the 2.41 and 2.56 work out really nice.

Another thing that I have found is that most of the posi rears are worn out by the time they get to the wrecking yard. You can check this by holding one wheel and turning the opposite one with a torque wrench. GM wants 40-70 ft-pounds on a good posi. Less than that usually means you get to rebuild the posi before you put it in your car. It is about $90 for parts at the GM parts counter if you do it yourself. Probably a lot more if you take to a qualified professional.
