I am trying to figure out if the engine in my '80 Z-28 is the original or not. I got these numbers off the boss in front of the right head: VO507UHX. It does seem to match up with the information I've found on the internet. Can anyone tell me what this engine came out of?
Thanks,
-Bob George

It's not original. UHX is a 1981 Truck 350.

Thanks so much. Now I don't have to agonize whether to build the original or keep it stock and put in another engine. I just realized that if it's a truck motor it might be a four bolt! Yea!

Check to see if the "CF" is could be "CE"
Another type of stamping found on some blocks is the "CE" code. You might see something like this "CE123456" on the front pad of the block deck on the passenger side. The "CE" which has been known to stand for "Chevrolet Engine" or "Crate Engine" was used on blocks that were warranty replacement motors. The "CE" prefix was also used on "over the counter" blocks and engines. If a customer had problems with their original engine, while it was under warranty, it would have been replaced with an engine that was stamped "CE" with a number following it. The number following the "CE" code was the serial number for that particular engine. Also if someone purchased a new motor from the Chevrolet Parts counter, the front pad on the passenger side of the block may have been stamped with a "CE" code.

I don't see anything that points to a Corvette with this code CF060151
If you could post a picture of the code it will help.

>engine#v0408u5
US is a valid code... a 1969 307 from a truck or a 1979 305 from a pontiac.
Get the casting # off the back and it'll pin down what you have specifically.

V0408U5
V - Flint Engine Plant (1967 up)
04 - May
08 - May 8th
U5 - Unknown
What kind of engine is this? L6, V8, small block or big block?
What it the casting number on the block?
Is there another stamped code next to the V0508U5? What is it?
The suffix U5 does not appear to exist for a chevy.
There is a U5 for a Oldsmobile and Buick engines. Is that what you have?
U5 - 1976 Olds 455-190hp 4-BC RPO L74
U5 - 1977 Buick 403-185hp 4-BC RPO L80
If this does not fit, then send an image of the stamp. Maybe what you read as U5 could have another interpretation. There are a lot of U_ codes but none have a number in them like this. If the suffix is 2 digits than is a 1969 or prior engine. 1970 up were 3 digits.
