Ok, I'm hoping someone out there has a pic of where I'm supposed to be looking for this partial VIN. I understand it is by the oil filter some where but there is either no stamp or I'm looking in the wrong place. It is a Norwood car with a Tonawanda engine. It has the right date stamp and code above the timing cover. Thanks in advance for the help!

It is very faint. On my car the VIN was not possible to see until I took some pics with my camera on the macro setting.---mike

Thank you Mike!!! Can't say it enough. Put the car back on the lift today and sure enough after a little scrubbing and a magnifying glass there was the VIN I was hoping for. Now I can prove numbers matching!

Drivers side, stamped vertically into the rough casting...as a point of reference that the top of the clutch fork return spring in the foreground...

Thanks for the pics. Helped out a ton and I found mine. I can't see it all but got the last 5 digits. I will do a bit more scrubbing and try again in better light. Of all the places to put the partial VIN.....

Of all the places to put the partial VIN.....

The reason for the partial VIN was theft prevention. They hide them so the parts choppers did not know they were there. Can you imagine if they were not there for the cops to find, how could they prove you were in possession of stolen property. They still do it today.
