Looking to keep the stock radio, but installed new 6x9's tri's in rear, looking for say just and amp to mount in trunk for an ipod input in console, anything like that on the market?
Thanks!

You need some kind of signal processor or input from the head unit to do this. There is also the iPod accessories with the Bluetooth transmitters to convert to FM signal that is much clearer than the basic FM Modulators

You'll need either an amp level control or a dual amp balancer to adjust the volume. Look at a Kenwood KOS-A300 for a controller for the Ipod. Should work out fine for you.

There are two ways you can go with this.

1) Amp your stock radio by getting an amp with High Level Inputs so you can use the stock speaker wires to feed the music signal to the amp. Or you can get a line level converter such as this (http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-SLC4-Speaker-Level-Converter/dp/B000BFL52Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1294122592&sr=1-2) to convert the high level inputs from your stock head unit to a low level for an amp that doesn't have a line level converter built in.

Then use a unit like this (http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-FM-MOD02-Universal-Modulator-Satellite/dp/B001QBG614/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) to input the signal from your Ipod to your FM antenna jack on the back of your stock radio.

2.) Use a unit like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002J226O/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER) to plug the Ipod directly to your amp and still be able to control the volume level without having to fumble with the Ipod itself. You can mount this control knob somewhere under the dash, on the center console, in the center console, etc., to make in less conspicuous.

All good information, thanks!

Maybe need to re-think this, even googled underseat/trunk headends and coming up dry. Wanted to keep original setup for looks and some functionality and hide a system in the truck, could be head end and amp...

I would just get a good amp with high level inputs, run your stock head unit to that.

For the mp3 portion, just get a cigarette adapter FM modulator. You can get them off eBay for around 10-20 shipped. It has a usb spot to insert a flash drive and play mp3's off that.

All in all this should make a nice sounding stereo providing your using quality speakers. Playing the mp3's through the fm band will cut some of the frequency's....I don't think you'll notice it.
