I've searched, but cannot find anyone who sells the Spot Rot gauge. Eastwood has the Pro Gauge, but it's pretty pricey compared to what I've seen the Spot Rot Gauge should sell for. Anyone know of a source for the Spot Rot gauge?

Thanks, Steve

What in the world is that?

It looks like the Spot Rot is no longer made. The company that made them only lists the Pro Gauge, which appears to be it's replacement...about $50.

It tells you how much filler is on the body based on how much the gauge pulls down.

you place it on the body, pull the outter part, if it pulls down a good amount then there is hardly any filler/bondo there. If it don't pull but a hair down then there is a lot of bondo/filler in that area.

Fridge magnet FTW..

I have a magnetic flap on my cell phone case.
It works beautifully to find any filler.
Since the magnet is leather covered.... You can drag it across paint without worrying about scratches. :D

It won't tell you how many coats of paint a car has but I've never seen a two coat (or more) finish you couldn't detect with your eyes anyway.

Wookie and T.M...thanks for the suggestions. I like tools that eliminate subjectivity...(read this as my anal-retentive-persona wants to know exactly how thick the filler is)...which is why I was looking for the SpotRot...but I guess in reality a household magnet would do as long as I stay with some basic rules such as "run away if teh magnet won't stick";)
