View Full Version : YearOne dashboard panel
80ZED28 EH 09-19-2003, 07:16:00 PM Well I ordered and received my new dsahbaord panel from yearone, to fix the notorious rust in the corners etc. When I ordered it from the online catalogue, I was under the impression it looked like this: http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/part.asp?pid=DP213&c=0&e=0&cat=8&hid=820AC11984 with the holes cut for the speaker, vin, and defroster. But, its just a piece of steel with no holes at all. Has anyone done this install? If so how can I go about cutting all the necessary holes etc. Needless to say it looks like there is going to be extra labor involved. I called YearOne and told them it's almost like false advertising. They told me to call customer service and discuss it with them.
I don't see where they will help but I might just send it back and get one from somewhere else.
moementum 09-19-2003, 08:05:00 PM This is what you're looking for: http://www.chevy-depot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CD&Product_Code=1071&Category_Code=BP Granted, there's no picture yet, but it should be up sometime this weekend. We sold the last one we had in stock today, but more are on the way and should be here by mid-week
mark wagner 09-22-2003, 08:25:00 PM it's obviously not a finished piece, contact them (year one)they should send you a new one and pick up the old one-or you could get a refund, then get one from Moementum(I did-it includes the cowl as one piece, and is a very nice piece)
80ZED28 EH 09-23-2003, 10:27:00 AM Well, I just got off the phone with YearOne.
I told them to look at the picture and description on their website of what I thought I was getting from them. We both agreed that the website picture etc. is deceiving and should be changed. Apparently the piece I got is just a repair panel that goes underneath my existing dash.(?)
Anyways, they credited me the $136 it cost me and they let me keep the piece.
I might take the car to a body shop and see if I can still use it to fix my rusty corners.
Maybe one day Moementum will have an actual picture I can see for their piece.
Thanks again for the replies,
80ZED
mark wagner 09-28-2003, 11:27:00 AM the piece James(Moementum) is selling is an almost exact copy of the entire cowl and dash.I say almost because GM built them in two pieces and the piece James sells is one piece(no seam to leak under the windshield)it is very clean no rough edges everything appears correct, and looks like a "drop in"-I laid it on top of the original and it has every hole, speaker grill slot etc.now if the weather would stay nice I could weld it in........
moementum 09-28-2003, 02:48:00 PM Actually Mark, it is exactly like the original piece. They weren't two pieces originally, just the one, unlike the first gen. I had a NOS example of the same piece and they were identical. BTW, the T/A and Firebird uses the same piece.

4SPD77Z 09-28-2003, 06:49:00 PM I just joined the board...but I have to admit..some of the stuff Moementum has on the website is going to be a god send!As clean as my car is..that cowl piece is trashed at both corners.I'ts great knowing I can have this replaced with a quality piece!Having come from Mopars and Mustangs..I can tell you the panels and stuff for the Mopars are garbage!!All I need now is to find someone that makes the complete rear frame rails, instead of just the back half.I emailed a place called Jimmys Bow Ties...but he wanted $450 a side to cut them out, thats $1000 before shipping, and before getting them installed for used parts http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/frown.gif
mark wagner 09-28-2003, 09:06:00 PM strange, the one in my 79 is spotwelded together,or looked like it-I only lifted the windshield out long enough to lay the panel on top to check it for fit.the front end had been repaired before and the cowl had some sloppy welds so maybe it was replaced in its past.

You can find a much better deal on frame rails almost anywhere! I understand that these are commonly rotted. I made sure that when I bought a car that the rails were solid as it is a pain to replace them.

I had a problem with my rear frame rails. I got the entire rear half of a camaro( it was trashed in an accident, but the back half was alright) with all the frame rail intact for 150 Canadian. It took a bit of work to get the frames out but worth it in the end.
