View Full Version : Another Compressor Question?
Teamchevy 09-26-2010, 12:50:54 AM I've been looking for a compressor to install in the new garage I'm building. I know that lots of people say to go with a 2 stage versus a single stage, but money is a limiting factor. The TSC ad has a 60 Gallon 4 cyl on for $799, reg $999. I think it's still a single stage, but the CFMs seem to be higher than the single cylinder. Thoughts & comments anyone??

Cardinal 09-26-2010, 01:15:53 AM 16 CFM at 90 PSI is HUGE! I'd have to say buy it.
olstyle 09-26-2010, 08:56:37 AM Heck ya, I would have to agree! 16 CFM @ 90 PSI should run just about anything. Just make sure the motor is single phase, most industrials are 3 phase. House current is single phase.
I would buy it!!!
Dave, ya got a link to read more about it?

Thanks Guy!
It is a single phase motor and I can't find much more about it, either at their site or on the web, that's why I was asking here and at a couple of other forums. The only thing I know is that it's made by Campbell Hausfeld, here's a link to some part information:

Teamchevy 10-13-2010, 07:00:38 PM Well I didn't get the Farmhand Compressor, but the Iron Horse 80 Gallon unit goes on sale Friday for $799.99 CAD, regular price is $1199.99 CAD. I think I'll buy it as a "garage warming gift" as it's almost complete!!

tom3 10-13-2010, 11:08:41 PM Only thing I don't like is that Peak HP rating. The actual NEMA rating is probably about 2 HP. Is that a Chinese unit? I'd just about bet the capacity is over rated too. I'd keep looking, but that's just an opinion from under the shade tree here.

I wasn't sure if it was made in China or not, so I checked out their webpage. Says they are being produced in Belmont, Mississipi. Does't say where the components come from:

Rick WI 10-14-2010, 12:01:43 PM Look on sties such as craigslist to see if you can locate an old Ingersoll Rand 30T compressor, model 253. Absolutely built like a tank, which the models you are looking at aren't when you compare, and even IF it needs a rebuild, cost is about 80 bucks for all the parts shipped. The 30T is a true 2 stage, which those are not and I suspect you'd get 1000% better compressor for less overall dollars. 253's come with either a 5 or 7 single phase motor.
