Is it easer to pull the motor and trans at the same time. BTW it is a big block if that matters

That's always been my preferred method, but to each their own. Whatever works best 4U.

I have never pulled the engine out of this car so I think I am going to try to pull it all at once

I've done it both ways and prefer to pull both together. Of course, a load leveler on your engine hoist makes this even easier...

Yes you need to have a load leveler

Trans can be dropped seperately if you like, but it involves a couple of strong guys and at least four heavy duty jackstands. I prefer to yank with the engine still attached. This is also done with the rad removed for clearance, water pump taken off, etc. Did it myself (once everything is hooked up and ready to go) with a chain hoist in about 10 minutes of careful manouvering.

I pulled the trans and all the stuff off the front of the engine in about 4 hours

^^^That's not bad^^^

I helped my friend pull his BBC out of his 72 Chevelle. We unbolted the trans, but first propped it with a 2x4 and a small floor jack. The engine came out like nothing in about 3hrs.

Thats why I find it easier to pull them seperatly. When I tried to do them together, I felt there was not enough clearence. Also I find it easier to bolt on the accesories while the motor is out. I didnt want to put it in bare and work over the fenders.

Every time I have pulled the motor and trans, I have been lonesome. With a buddy would makes things a whole lot easier. My 4 speed is small and light, no problems pulling in from the bottom, auto may be a different story, but I have also pulled one of those seperatly without issue.

I always do them seperately because I usually leave the trans in the car. If you are going to do them together you need a load leveler and a buddy and make sure you tape a thick blanket across the top of the upper valance panel!

If you do decide to pull them together, spend a couple of bucks and get a plug for the back end of the transmission so that you don't wind up with ATF or 90w all over the place. The plug takes the place of the seal that the driveshaft gives you when it's in place.
