View Full Version : "Shades Of The Past Rod Run" Pigeon Forge, TN Sept 10/11 -NOT just Rods..
DGulliver 08-18-2010, 11:44:12 PM Here's a link to she show: http://www.shadesofthepast.com/
Don't let the Rod Run name fool you.. the actual show cutoff is nothing newer than 1972, but here's the thing. The twelve mile stretch from Sevierville through Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg will be packed with cars, parts, swapmeets, wall to wall, all weekend. Every parking lot in every hotel, restaurant, shop or store will be lined with hot rods, parts, projects of every size shape, condition and age. The 6 lane road through there will be a 24/7 parade of stuff all day and night. People line the parkway with lawn chairs and just sit and watch. It's really just overwhelming the amount of stuff there is to see. We go, but have never even made it to the actual show itself! There's no need, just tons of stuff everywhere you look. Last year we saw tons of 1st gen cars, SS's, RS's and Z/28's all weekend- and all for sale. The show link only tells about the proper show, but just being in the area is good enough- there's just no way to see it all anyways. Be a great place to sell one, or unload your extra parts, or find that new winter project. Kelly and I are going up for the weekend Thursday night -anybody coming send a PM if you like- love to meet up with any other Nasty Z/28 members.
SupplySgt 08-19-2010, 01:58:25 AM damn I wish I could go but I'm pretty sure I have duty with my Reserve unit that weekend.

I tried to get to that the first year. My wife was 3 weeks in, of 6 weeks bed rest, after a hysterectomy...but she wanted to go. We missed everything except the autoX, and we were late to that...
At least she got out of the house for the weekend.
JJFarmer 09-10-2010, 08:48:02 PM The cars have been coming thru town since Tuesday. Miss a lot of traffic going 321 from Lenoir City (I-75 exit 81) to Townsend and take Wears Valley to Pigeon Forge.
dropit69 09-11-2010, 09:24:40 PM yeah we learned the back way into town from the first trip. i was stuck 2 1/2 hours in a convert in about 100 degrees weather it sucked..
5spd540 09-12-2010, 07:23:14 AM I bought my nova from there but I will never go back

Shades of the past is the 2nd weekend and the Grand Rod Run is the 3rd weekend. Pretty much the same show and most people that are selling stuff stay the whole next week which is why parking is so limited. We used to take cars to the fall rod run but all spaces were full from the amount of people staying over from the shades car show. I have been to every spring and fall show for the past 6 yrs and its pretty awesome.

I like it too...like I said, haven't been in a few years, but we'd stay in Gatlinburg, park on that end of PF and just walk all day...I really enjoy it...then we'd make it back to the motel in time for the UF-UT game.
We haven't headed back up for the RR, because we started spending the weekend in Marietta for the FBody Gathering, and then heading to Carlisle with this bunch of Nasty people...both awesome places to be as well. I'm actually close enough to leave early Sat. AM and spend the day at the RR.
z2871rsbb396 09-13-2010, 08:37:36 PM Here is the 2nd Gen car that caught my eye. There were a few more nice looking near original ones, but I am all about resto mod and pro touring.
Lets see if I can get this picture to post !?!
