I have an old Sherwood 4x25 amp that I bought in 1990 (back in High School...) and barely ever used it, it's in brand new condition. It's not bridgeable or anything, it's a very simple 4-channel amp
here's an example:

I want to use this in my work truck because the OEM stereo system is just plain ol garbage. I'm getttin g a new Clarion receiver today 9cheapest one I can find) which I'll use to drive the OEM speakers. I also got a free 6" sub (woofer....not a sandwich) that I'd like to power using this amp.
Here's the stupid question: what would happen if I tie 2 channels together to run the sub, ie, hook up channel 1 and channel 2 to the sub? Would I let out the magic smoke?

I've never heard of doing that before - unless you're running a dual voice-coil sub (that accepts two separate inputs for a single speaker - these have a coil for each input). If the sub is a dual voice-coil speaker, you'll see two sets of inputs on the sub...
IMHO, unless you're a speaker box genius, a 6" sub almost isn't worth the effort.

well, it was free, so that's gotta be worth the effort...:) (it's in a box already)
I'm not looking to shake the earth, just want a good sound while I sit in daily ridiculous NYC traffic...so I won't lose my mind as easily.
thanks for the quick reply

You can't bridge a non-bridgeable amp, Not gonna work.

x2. Basically what you're trying to do is bridge the amp. If the amp is non-bridgeable it's going to fry.

If you do the amp will be toast in no time

6" sub isn't worth the time to install IMHO.
I put a stereo in my 95 Sierra work truck too, but IMO a 10" is the smallest you should consider.

I literally want to get out of my car and punch the drivers in the mouth
when I hear that rattling crap on the street. It is so annoying.
But yeah I see they are stronger then they used to be.
