i am missing the 2 or 3 felt guides that go on the door for both sides. Where can i get those? or is there a better replacement?

I havent started on the door yet, but will be soon i hope so wanted to see if i can find them and order them so i have them when i get to them.

Anyone have site where i can order them or what they are actually called so i can look around for them?

If you just need the felt material itself, you can go to an interior shop and ask for scrap material or JoAnn Fabrics, or Michaels, or Hobby Lobby.

If you need the steel guides that they attach to as well, Pete from Fbodywarehouse has them.

thanks, found them on the site, but are out of stock. I checked my doors and seem to be missing 2. Guess it will have to wait.

I just bought the felt from Camaro Central. Paid 12 bucks for a strip of it. It worked but seemed way over priced.

Well since i treated the surface rust yesterday and sealed it today i decided to work a little on the doors, so since i took the upper part of the door panels off, here is a pic of what i have for the felt. I need to replace atleast one of the actual felt strips(just the felt) but wanted to see if the 3 peices i have in place are the 3 that i should have. The middle brace is smaller and different than the outer two, so want to see if thats correct.

I always thought the back 2 guides had felt and the front guide had no felt. Is the picture above the correct way to install the guides?

I am sure it's easy to find out - someone will certainly be able to confirm for us. I know for a fact that two of the three guides have felt and one does not. I am pretty sure that the one w/o felt is upfront.

In general, you only need to replace the felt on the two and possibly move the guides around.

All 3 of my guides have felt on them on both doors.

Think about it......
How effective is a steel guide going to be against glass ??? not good at all.
They all have felt on them. Not to mention that middle guide looks like it
doesn't even belong........all 3 of mine on both doors look like the Left and Right ones.

Does anyone have any pics of how this should be setup? Just curious if the 1 odd guide even belongs on this car.

I bought recently bought new guides from Classic Industries. P/N 14847. My car had one of the three guides without felt too but I couldn't figure out how it worked or what it did without felt. I managed to squeeze in three guides all with felt. It's a tight fit but it works and the window is aligned properly.

National Parts Depot shows the rear or center guide as C-14691-52B. They have the same P/N for years '70-79. Again, I had to move mine around until I got three that worked in all three locations. I'm not sure I have them in the right order but I did whatever I needed to, to get the window to lay at the right angle. If you figure out what the one does with no felt, let me know!

When I bought my car back in 1993, both sides had 2 guides with felt and 1 without. I highly doubt someone swapped out one of the three with some oddball guide since both sides had the same arrangement. Perhaps Pete can chime in.

I did a search on NPD's site and it shows part # C-14691-52B as being a "rear or center guide", but does not mention it being a front guide. It also says it's for 70-79 Camaros, so maybe 80-81 had a different setup.

I just checked classicindustries and found these parts:
72-79 INNER DOOR PANEL RETAINER GUIDE PAD
http://www.classicindustries.com/controller.cfm?type=product&action=productDetail&productId=12625&productSearchCatalogId=1

AND

70-78 INNER DOOR PANEL FRONT RETAINER
http://www.classicindustries.com/controller.cfm?type=product&action=productDetail&productId=13211&productSearchCatalogId=1

So just going on part descriptions, seems the middle and back are felted and the front is not.. if thats the case, i have what i need and just need to move mine around to be in that order.

so that begs the question of what happened that required the 80-81 years to use a different setup? Did the door panels change in 80?

ON my 73 the rear and middle have felt. The front does not.

Hmmmmmm, the part # descriptions imply that 70-72 and 80-81 have a different setup for the guides. I am curious now.

As I understand it, the front one with no felt is not a window guide, but a door panel support.

76_TypeLT

that is correct, it's not used as a window guide, but it appears that some years had window guides w/ felt on all three.

That would makr sense.

My '78 Type LT has the felt on the front supports and it's a good thing or the front support would be digging a trench in the door glass. As it is there are scratches in the glass from the front support, because of the worn felt, on the left door glass.

If CI had a reputation for never selling an incorrect or ill-fitting part, I might consider using them as a reference. Just because CI lists it in their catalog that way, doesn't make it right. I know they're not always wrong, but they're not correct often enough for me to consider them a good reference. Just my opinion, your results may be different and mileage will vary according to conditions.

What about NPD and CI?

As I said, I know what my car came with and highly doubt that anything was changed by the previous owner. Would be too weird for both sides to be like that.
