Rough cut with dremel, then final with a flat file. I think it came out nicely. Trim ring makes it look about a 1/16th high on the right side. I took the dash bezel off, and i just saw nightmare about changing the front speaker, i figure thats a job for another day.

i just got some open box pioneer a6963rs in the back using the stock speaker grilles. They could use maybe a 1/16th of clearence as the tweeter is right at the grille, but they work perfectly and provide plenty of bass even though i dont have a rear amp. next step is either add my jl e4300 or put the 4" pioneers up front.

I've had a DIN radio in my 1973 since (updated) 1994, Yikess has it been that long (16 years ?????)

Yours looks good with the silver back plate, match the panel above, I just made my back plate black.
I don't have a picture handy since the car is torn apart now (hey your floor looks like my floor) but I got a new HD iPod (maybe Satellite Radio) JVC AHD69 radio from when it goes back together.
It was surprising how easy it was to file it smooth after just a little cutting.

How did you guys hold yours in? i used a piece of aluminum and bent it and connected it horizonally to a screw near the heater box. I think i need a better designed bracket though, but it works and holds it in.

Sorry for the dark pics, didnt think to take any earlier. You can see the aluminum from under the grilles if your looking for it. And i know i need a new package tray, im going to try and find some 1/8 or 1/4 inch plastic and make one from that, then wrap it in black vinyl. Its really greeny right now and just needs to be replaced. Ill probably do that if and when i add an amp and rewire all the stereo, right now im just adapting from the stock untouched harness. Ill strip down and repaint the grilles as well at that point.

Oh, one last final though. For no amp and just 6x9s, they sound good. I still have the front 4x10 hooked up, but will switch out to twin 4" pioneer ts 2 ways ive had for the longest while.
