Rebuilding my 92 TBI motor for my S10. Its a 350 4 bolt.Eagle crank all Jegs bearings High volume oilpump Mollyrings. Getting the rods checked the block dipped new freeze plugs and cam bearings installed at the machine shop. The cylinders are in beautiful shap and need only honed. Going with a comp cams 206 /212 434 /444 cam. Leaving the swirlport heads due to the budget.Im going for low end torque the cam is for 1000 to 5000 rpm.Im running 4.11 gears hooked to a 3l80 tranny.Had to sell some tools to get the cam and lifters. Sold my tool carte and a snapon air hammer.Any opinions on how it will run or the power it will make? I do use it as a everyday driver. Just glad to finally get all my parts ordered and the build under way. Ive done asked you guys a million questions over the last couple months and bugged the crap out of the parts people. According to cam quest Ill make 256 horsepower @4000rpm and 445 lbs of torque at 2000 rpms.:) :) :)

I think cam quest is smoking the wacky tobaccy again. Those swirl port heads will not flow enough to come near that number. It sounds like a stout setup but if you can find a few more dollars for some double hump heads or anything other then those stockers, it would be a huge improvement.

I think the camquest is a little extreme and it is realistically possible to "See" 225 HP and 360 torque but with some work on the TBI, the intake, the swirl port heads, the ignition and some exhaust.

A high volume oil pump is not necessary for the street! You could evacuate your pan if you are not careful!

The cam seems pretty good but the lobe centerline spec is what I would be interested in seeing. The idle characteristics of the cam will dictate how well the TBI will function. Have you done any mods to the TBI system? Upgrade the fuel pressure regulator? Raise the injectors?

In your S-10, it will be a strong street motor but I worry that you will rev that thing out too soon with the 4:11 gears! What are you running for a tranny? An 3L80??? Or 700R4? That 1st gear rev will be quick! And then the drop to 2nd will be wild!

Seriously, even if you ran 3:73's with a 275-60R15, that would be more than enough! With the 4:11's you'll be hard to touch off the line but your fuel mileage will be dismal!

Local craigslist has been flooded lately with fresh vortec heads for about $300 pair... If it where me, I'd go with the vortecs over the stock swirl port and the double humps..

Thats just me though..

86 the HV oil pump.
What was the oil pressure on the engine before the rebuild?
Why change cranks?
Did the rod bearings have a bad wear pattern?

If the stock bearings had a good wear pattern, I'd just re-ring and new bearings, timing set and that cam you listed.
Clean up the heads' ports with a dremel and clean up the bowl real well. Not hog out, CLEAN up sharp edges, casting crap et. Get a valvejob and get to reassembling.

Inspect your stock oil pump if it looks fine inside there is no reason to replace it, the pump lives in a bath of oil, if its not hurt and made the proper pressure it is more than enough for your rebuilt engine.

Its hooked to a 3L80 trans tho oil pomp flows 10% more than stock nothing crazy. The reason the crank is getting replaced the motor spun a rod and ate the other crank like a croc on a wildabeast. Chewed in about a 1/8 inch. Reason everything getting replaced put metal shavings everywhere. I thought caM QUEST WAS CRAZY ALSO. I am running headers and 2 1/2 inch pipes that turn down at the rearend. I usually advance the timing a hair.I have a holley proinjection system to install on the truck but Im gonna break it in with the stock thrttlebody. The oil pressure b4 was about 10 idleing and 35 driving. Just dont trust any of it after the metal shavings. Selling tools now just to be able to get the rest of my parts. Guess I could sell a kid or two and really build it the way I want. With an electric fan headers free flowing exhaust and the cam upgrade I was hoping for about 220 230 horse and about 260 265 #s of torque. The gear with that tranny makes a wicked combo up to about 100 mph after that its wound out.:) :)

OK I ditched the high volume oil pump. The machine shop is done with the bloock but now I have a new issue. Reconditioned the rods and found that metal had got between the wrist pins and pistons so I had to get new pistons and pins. Went with 10.2to1 cast aluminum pistons. Waiting on them to be here friday so assembley can begin. How much more power will these pistons add to a motor?Seems this motor is determined to have me replace everything in it.Wanted to build a strong bottom end so later down the road I can ditch the swirlport heads and put on a better set + ditch the TBI and put on a four barrel carb and intake. Hopefully next year I can score some double hump heads and a four barrel.:)
