So all looks good with the 12" clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel until I measure the inside diameter of the bell housing (the hole where the tranny goes into).
It measured 5.125" in diameter which I believe is bigger than the cars. Can anybody measure the diameter of the input shaft housing of a car 4-speed to confirm this?

I will this weekend if I have time. But I have heard that the bellhousing is what keeps people from using a 12" clutch setup.

Here's what I did. I had an all original '75 LT with a saginaw 4 speed and a cooked clutch. I went to the wreckers where the guy had a factory 12" clutch from a 79 4x4 pickup.I took off my 10 1/2" pressure plate and disc and bolted the 12" one right back on in its place. If you have the larger flywheel with 168 teeth you can swap the clutches. It all fits inside a stock bellhousing just fine.

I've heard a lot of different opinions about 3 finger style pressure plates not working in the smaller bell housing.
WildBillyT - Did you have a chance to measure the input shaft housing?

Here are the incompatibilities.
A truck bellhousing has a bigger input shaft housing bore when compared to a car.
A 12" pressure plate will not fit inside the standard 10 1/2" bellhousing.
So no workie for me...
