Got the block back from the machine shop this morning and all looks ok- Except...it has steel frost plugs installed? Is that GTG? It had brass when I sent it in and I think 1 steel in the very back. Brass seems like the way to go, it it worth taking it back or swapping them out for brass?

I personally prefer steel but that's me.
Steel plugs will last 20-30 yrs in a properly maintained cooling system. A couple of months in a poorly maintained one. They do act as a sacrificial anode if you have a problem with the cooling system.

Jakes right if you properly maintain your cooling system you won't have a problem with steel plugs , I tend to use brass because people expect it and unfortunately I can't rely on people always doing things right so the brass is cheap insurance

I just replaced a steel plug in my car. The engine was rebuilt with new steel plugs about 7 years ago. The leaking steel one had a rusted pin hole that created a very small leak.
I have ALWAYS maintained my cooling system. I flushed it out every 2nd season (under 2000 miles) and always used distilled water with the proper ratio of antifreeze. The item I could be found guilty of though is testing the PH.
It is a real PITA to change them when the engine is in the car. If I were to do it again, I would probably just remove the motor.
Personally when I build again I would use brass or screw in types.
