View Full Version : How much is it worth
76 camaro car 03-24-2010, 10:10:07 AM How much is a cross fire 350 out of a 82 vette worth ? I am doing some body work in trade for this engine and I need to know when to tell the guy when we are even. The engine is still in the car and has 62000 miles on it. Please be serious with the answers. I know its only a 200 HP engine from the factory but it the only thing I could work a trade with. Thanks
hhott71 03-24-2010, 10:18:10 AM Engine alone?
Engine with wiring and computer?
Search for some Vette and Street Rod boards too.....
76 camaro car 03-24-2010, 10:22:09 AM I am going to switch to a carb intake and use the HEI distributor out of the old 76 engine. Not getting the computer.
BigBlock73 03-24-2010, 11:11:47 AM Make sure it's a 350
They made 305 crossfire's
Someone tried to sell me the 305 as a 350.
On the back of the block, above were the bell housing is, there was a "5.0" cast into the block.
Confronted the seller,he turned red and said "I thought they were all 350's
Nothing special about that engine
BondoSpecial 03-24-2010, 11:29:27 AM lo po used 350 is not worth much. You're trading your labor for an engine worth about $150 on a good day. Seriously. You'd have a very hard time selling that engine.
Twisted_Metal 03-24-2010, 11:48:33 AM The intake and throttle body set may be worth something to someone but they are almost worthless without the computer.
76 camaro car 03-24-2010, 12:32:04 PM Would a 5.0 be in a 82 corvette ? I never thought it might be a 5.0. If so I have really been screwed. The guy said it was a 350.
BondoSpecial 03-24-2010, 12:33:37 PM Catalog shows 82 vette was 5.7 only?
BigBlock73 03-24-2010, 12:36:44 PM 82 Camaro 5.0
They look the same
warped 03-24-2010, 01:09:45 PM Even with the computer, those early Crossfire engines were very problematic in their time. Without the intake and injection, it is just a used long block, not worth a whole lot. If it truely came from a Corvette, it will be a 350, Chevrolet never used a 5.0 in the Corvette.
76 camaro car 03-24-2010, 01:17:31 PM I think I have more than paid for this engine then. I rebuilt both the hood tips and did some fiberglass work on a set of t-tops on his vette, plus did all the bodywork (fiber glass) on his 85 fiero and have everything blocked down to 400 grit ready for a base/clear paint job. Sounds like I've gone above and beyond the call of duty.
BondoSpecial 03-24-2010, 01:49:57 PM Uh yeah sounds like you went about $1000 beyond what he traded you. If you will do work for parts like that, come over to my house!!!!
jroach 03-24-2010, 02:18:00 PM might be valuable to a die hard corvette guy.any body else not likely.
Twisted_Metal 03-24-2010, 03:22:00 PM 82 Camaro 5.0
They look the same
Yes, they do look the same.
Check the casting numbers to be sure it's a 350.

I agree, its a $150 core.
76 camaro car 03-25-2010, 06:35:16 AM Wow,do I feel stupid. I wish I would have been able to find a engine with a little more kick to it. I was going to trade a guy who had a 350 from his 73 nova but he could not get his car to my house for me to work on. There was a lot less to do on the nova. They are the only two who responded to my ad on craigslist.
z28rod 03-25-2010, 07:23:33 AM There is nothing wrong with a fi 350, just build here up or sell her to a corvette guy thats all.....
