ok i kinda feel stupid for asking this but... here it goes. i got my 350 running finaly and recently got it running semi well. (after i had a thread in rocker stud pull out...) i wanted to check the timing because i thought i had it close. and the mark was way over to the left. no vacuum advance and as idling as i could get which was about 1000-1100 rpm give or take. dose this mean i was way advanced? turning the distributor untill the vacuum advance hit the manifold made it run better. so i pulled the dizzy and roated it one toothe to the LEFT. did i figure everything right. i dont think i did.. cause now i cant get it fired and then my battery died so yea. but through reading this can any of you guys figure out my mistake? please.

pull the left valve cover and rotate the engine until the timing mark is lined up with zero AND both valves on 1 are closed. That's #1 TDC. Put your dizzy back in so the rotor is in the neighbohood of the #1 spark plug wire.

That will get you close enough to time it properly.
