Okay, I recently picked up this 3.23 posi rear out of a late Second Gen T/A for $250. Neither I nor the owner of the car knew about this at the time (I can understand how he could miss it, it's barely noticable). Well, while rebuilding the brake assembly today I noticed the drive side axle end is bent out of alighnment by about 3/32", maybe closer to 1/16". Now I'm kinda at a loss as to what to do about this. Here are a couple of my ideas...

(1) Bend them back in shape through "contraction" by heating of the lengthened side and cooling it with water (a trick we use in the shop to straighten shafts, though usually not when they're off this much)

(2) Buy a new axle, or axles. In this case I'd need instructions on how to swap these out.

Supposing I do the latter of the two, I've found a pair of late 2nd Gen WS6 T/A axles for around $40 (minus shipping), thing is, I'm not sure if these will work since the WS6 is a rear disc brake car. They look the same though! Anyone know for sure? Also, what is the stock length of the axles in a late 2nd Gen Camaro or T/A? I'm seeing them range from 29-7/8" - 30-1/8". Is it common to see this much of a difference?

HELP!!! LOL, I need this thing operation soon! Thanks Guys!

First, you can not heat axles because they are heat treated and you will change the structure of the metal. You should be able to find a good used axle without much trouble. Check the bearing surface and be sure that it is smooth and not pitted or worn. The WS6 axles are a little bit different. A new set of Moser axles are $258. To remove the axles you will have to remove the cover (all of the oil will run out) and remove the retaining bolt that holds the cross shaft in place. Remove the cross shaft and push the axle in. Remove the c clip from the end of the axle and pull the axle out. Reverse the process to install them.

Thanks man, I really appreciate that. Yeah, I'd really like to get the new axle before I go filling the damn case with lube, oh how that would suck!

What's the difference between the std. axle and a WS6 axle? $40 plus shipping would be fine by me, if they would work that is. If you can answer this cool, if not, well crap! LOL

I can't tell you exactly what the difference is, but I think it is something about the hub on the end of the axle. I haven't had one of each to compare them.

I beleave one is slightly longer than the other and the hub flange is larger on the drum axles.
