I have the opportunity to buy a 700r4 cheap, it is from a 1985 corvette. When looking at remanufactured transmissions on the web, I saw on B&M's site that they list a different transmision for corvettes than other models.
Whats the differnece between corvette and other 700r4's?
Will I run into problems fitting it into my camaro?
Thanks

Well, It has been said that the valve body in a corvette 700 has a difference in the passages to flow more fluid when manually shifting. However I do know for a fact that a 700 is longer than a turbo 350, which mean that you will have to move the crossmember back and have the driveshaft cut down or replaced. If you a looking for a more bolt in a 200r4 is the same length as a 350. The thing about a 200 is you want one from a grand national so that it has the better internals. This is from experience in my Monte Carlo S.S.

Early 700's had issues. 87+ are better. One big problem they had was pressure buildup behind the front seal. GM released a special seal or something, but popped seals were still a problem. Tranny guys were making reliefs to deal with the problem, till GM fixed the problem in 87. Other improvements also came in 87.

Also pre 87 had weaker parts ex: sprag, 7 vane pumps, drum, etc.

I believe the corvette overdrives will shift into overdrive at WOT, while the others won't.

True, the throttle valve does allow WOT Shifts in vettes.

an actual corvette 700r4 will not have a place to bolt a 2 hole mount onto the main case.
The vettes use a torque arm setup that uses a stronger designed case where the tail housing bolts on. The tail housing is different too.

Thanks all. I suppose I'll have to give it a miss, I don't want to run into any problems other than the usual. I just remembered a 2004r on ebay, in my area that sold for 50 pounds, and it was from a monte carlo ss too. But that was before I was looking to buy. Still kicking myself about that. I think I really want a 700 though, for that extra high first gear.
