Have to raise it on both sides? or just one? No ac box in car and manual steering. Able to just use a jack with a board on the pan and raise a little ?

Asking because my mounts got here today and thinking of dropping motor in tomorrow. Dont have headers or clutch yet so was going to do those later. Have to rent a cherry picker so if the headers are a big hassle I will have to wait till I have them and get the picker then.

Supposed to be 70 tomorrow and sunny would be a great day for it :)

It depends on the headers. Most big blocks go in from the bottom. The car must be raised at least a foot to do this. Often the motor mounts can remain. The starter and z-bar usually need to be removed. It's easier to lay the headers in before dropping the motor.

Probably just some cheap summit/jegs brand headers. I wont have starter or zbar on till later anyway so thats cool. If its usually close with motor mounts in then I may have to raise one side a little. That would be fine. I just wanna see the engine in the bay :)

Thanks Swerven.

edit: Im going to have the car up on stands or 2x4 block stands later to build my exhaust so being off the ground isnt a big deal either.

I had summit headers. Passenger side came up from the bottom, driver from the top. Didnt need to lift the engine.

Thanks everyone. Moot point now since the cherry picker I rented had a busted seal and they didnt have another one.. Maybe next weekend though..

At least I know I can do the headers later :)

Ya i agree some install from the top and some from the bottom but have to take off at least the starter and spark plugs stuff like that. I have never had to remove the motor, just jak the car up alittle, ive even used headers off of an el camino and they worked just fine. Just a heads up some of the motor brackets mount to your stock exhaust like power steering(wich you dont have)or alternator and what i did was just put a spacer in between the bolt and the header just minor fab work you might not have a prob depending on application.
