What is a good price for a quality rebuilt TH-350? I need it to handle 400-500HP and take a good beating. Not strip racing, just hard street driving.

A local shop phone quoted me $350 bucks for a TH-350 with shift kit.

Since I have no clue about trasmissions, what should I ask for and look for in a quality rebuild?

If it's $350, its most likely going to be a stock rebuild... it may not hold up to what you want...

------------------
-'72 nova
-350/???? HP (its a camaro engine, thats my excuse)
-midnight sapphire/black interior
-***new upgrades** brand new 625 road demon jr., e-brock RPM intake manifold, 268H cam, hyperwhatever pistons, lots of good stuff.

rebuild this summer....

Find a VERY reputable tranny shop if you want to buy a good rebuilt tranny. A $350 tranny is probably not going to be worth a damn. You want heavy duty steels and frictions, a good drum and intermediate sprag, transgo shift kit, etc. Hopefully Jakeshoe will respond to this thread. He builds trannys and knows his shit. He should be able to give you a ballpark on the price of a good 350. I would say at least $500-600. I just rebuilt my own TH400 using all hughes parts and a B&M shift kit(mistake) and it cost me over $300 in parts alone not including a pan or cooler.
