OK...i've been having a little trouble with my tranny hesitating when shifting from 1-2. I took it to a tranny shop and they said it didn't need to be rebuilt....all it needed was to change the fluid (really thick) change filter, and add some Lucas tranny conditioner.
OK...thats something i've never done. How is it done? how do you get all the fluid out of the tranny?

when i changed it on my work truck we took all the pan bolts loose except on side.we then angled the pan down to drain the fluid.once it's all out remove the rest of the bolts holding it on so you can get to the filter and pan gasket.

when you reinstal the pan you have to bend it back in place.tighten the bolts down good and it should bend back right.

if you have more questions ask.

ok...but if i'm thinking right...that deosn't get all the fluid out right? or does it get most of it out? what about whats in the converter? or is that not enough to worry about?

it gets the bulk out.the only way to empty the converter is to remove it.what we did was change it then keep a close check on it.if the fluid got bad quick we were going to change it again.but unless the converter is acting up i wouldn't worry bout it's fluid right now.

it sounds like your probelm is in the main transmission anyway.the one in the truck did the same thing, we had a clogged filter.

dont forget to torque the bolts. they are supposed to be torqued to 12 ft/lbs. like they said, remove all the bolts except for one side then let it drain from the pan. then remove the pan, inspect for debris inside, and replace the pan. i would recommend a new gasket and also, you should replace the filter as well. the longer you let that tranny sit with the pan off, the more fluid will slowly drain out of it. those things never stop dripping, but you'd be wasting your time expecting it to drain completely.
just remove the pan, replace the gasket, and put the pan back on. if you are interested, summit sells a drain plug kit where you just drill a hole in the pan and plug it with the drain plug kit. i, however, have no experience with said drain plug kit.

Just drill a hole and weld a nut over the hole, then find a bolt that fits. Works great on differential covers too.

OK...a nice new problem arose today. It still has the hesitation. On the highway it drives smooth, but its making a whining noise. I dont get it.....when in 3rd gear its just as smooth as can be but now it has that whine. I'm going to try and change the fluid this weekend.
