Should I still add a bottle of EOS when using Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil? I have 2 cases of EOS 992869.

COPO 03-17-2010, 03:29:55 PM thx Rick WI 03-17-2010, 06:42:09 PM I have not done a VOA on VR1 but the sample data I have seen over the past couple of years shows you would if you really want a min 1200. Yup, know what they say it is but the data I have seen says otherwise. Does it matter or not, have no idea. I'd boost it to ratio out so you gain around 200 PPM on the zinc. From http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2777919 Valvolines VR1 race oil has approx 1400ppm zddp which is enough to protect just about any FT cam on the market without adding any zddp oil additive. kenny77 03-18-2010, 02:27:32 PM It's best to read a little more about what racing oils really are, and if you want them in your street car that just sits around most of the time. Article here and note that most of the data comes from Valvolines own information on their product. http://www.zddplus.com/TechBrief5%20-%20Racing%20Oil%20as%20a%20Replacement%20for%20SM%20Oil.pdf GM EOS has changed it's formula so many time not even SWHEATON can tell you for sure what's in/not in it anymore. For break-in fine, to leave that stuff in all the time and run it?? I dunno . Now I'm a ZDDP Plus fan...much the same way you are a Joe Gibbs boy. But the reasons behind running a STREET OIL and adding 1 ZDDP Plus which is equal to twice the amount of additives than GM EOS...Is better reasoning than running a racing oil. DoTheDew 03-18-2010, 02:30:23 PM Sure if you can get it. Another option is for the lucas engine break in additive, same numbers as the zddp (coming from lucas tech advisors, hence the reason its called break in oil) for about the same price. I run it in my 3/4 ton all the time for a little extra protection until I can afford the roller cam upgrade. I'm not going to go through 17 pages of a thread to try and find the VOA but all I see is someone saying it has 1400 PPM. Which doesn't match the claim by Valvoline of 1200 PPM. I have seen varied data on this oil so now the range in my head goes from a tad over 800 PPM to now 1400 PPM. Does it matter, I have no idea. I don't care what someone puts in their crankcase but what I am saying is if you want to know, you have to look at data. Too much bullcrap floating on the web with oil that's not founded with any fact. 76z28 03-18-2010, 06:39:36 PM i add supplement to mine with vr1 lol over kill? GoldenOne7710 03-18-2010, 08:17:04 PM i add supplement to mine with vr1 lol over kill? I wouldn't think so. I still run Rotella 15W40 in mine WITH Comp Cam's 'camshaft break-in concentrate' at every oil change. It's sold locally here at Autozone....and they always have it in stock. (probably just for me...LOL) 80-z28 03-18-2010, 09:10:15 PM I added a bottle of comp cams break in lube with the VR1 just to be safe.
