hello,

I will need a new automatic transmission for my camaro. It will have to support 500hp at least.
what brand and model do you recommend for this ? price doesn't matter. I already broke 2 TH350 cases so I want something strong.
by the way, what do you suggest for the rear end ?

thanks a lot !

If you are breaking cases you have another problem and it's not HP.

You have a improper transmission mount, bad driveline, or other issue. Resolve it first...

yes actually my mounts are the problem, I will change them next week.
but the trans I have (one stock and on from summit) will not whistand more than 450HP.
and the next engine I will build will be at least 500HP, so I need a reliable transmission.

a 2004R or a 700R4 a website I think called www.200r4.com (http://www.200r4.com)
they have trans that hold up to 650hp

I run a Th400 with a stage2 shift kit behind my 550hp+ bb plus a 250 shot of nitrous, actually only a 150 shot of nitrous but I race it every weekend and drive on the street a fair bit.I paid $300 cdn for and it's worked great.

TH350's can hold that kind of power, if they are set up correctly. If you are really going to be abusing the car, a TH400 is probably better. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the 700R4, and the 2004R built "right" is pricey. A 'glide would also be expensive, and overkill in terms of power handling. Plus you would only have 2 gears if the car sees any street time.

I think jakeshoe has already given the best advice. Get a trans installed correctly, first and foremost.

JMHO.

thanks all

I've welded the broken cases of my TH350s and will reuse them with a shift kit inside.
If it works, it will be just fine, otherwise I will see for a new trans

OB:

What trans mount are you running? I hope not a solid mount as it will definately break the trans no matter which one you use. Personally, I use a polyurathane trans mount on everything.

I've bought OER motor and transmission mounts.
I've tried polyurethane but it was a bit hard, so I come back to rubber mounts.

Run a Turbo 400 with a good convertor and forget about any tranny problems.............
