Ok, so I need an axle for the disc brake rear I am swapping in the camaro. I figure I will pull the one out of the old nasty rear I took out. So I pull the cover and the gears look realy nice. The fluid is clean as can be. So I look a little closer and it looks like someone has put new gears in. SO I check the ratio 41/9=4.55 HUH??? who would put that in a camaro ? (uh.wanna race)
Whats up with the springs in picture 2
The code is in pic 3. I tried to decode the number when I first got the car, but couldn't get it figured out..
So does anybody have a clue what this rear is out of and is it something special ?

Code COC shows up as a 1970 Camaro 2.73 open, so this could be one of those done over to be a drag race rearend.
The springs are posi, so this would be nice for a quartermile car, and probably not so nice as a street machine.
Either way, it is a good use for a 2.73 non-posi rear.

Ok, so this is a 10 bolt non posi rear from a 70, that has had 4.56 gears and a posi unit installed ?
So, whats it worth then ?

Probably not too much. You can pick up 12 bolt posi's relatively cheap.

Well, if it'll fit and it works, why not ?

If you can afford it...GO for it.

If I had known what I had I would have dropped it in for the fun of it. But I bought a disc brake posi from a T/A with 3.90 gears...
SO I guess I will swap meet it.
THANK you all for the input.

As far as I can tell that is a Eaton posi in a 8.2 10 bolt. It is hard to see in the pictures, but I think it is a 3 series posi. It should be real easy to sell. The Chevelle guys would probably be real glad to get that posi because all of the '64-'72 Chevelle 10 bolt rear ends were the 8.2. Most of the second gen Camaro 10 bolt rear ends are the 8.5.
