By using this adaptor ring to convert a series 2 to a series 3 carrier, will this carrier stand up to a 300 HP street car?

Hopefully Big Gear Head will jump in here and explain this.

There are some issues when using the adapter, not so much with strength as with getting things to line up perfecly.

Hang on until the expert arrives.

i'm sure the spacers/carriers are good for 300HP, i'd look into the "thick" gears with the spacer "built in" so to speek, forgot who makes them though

The summit part number is MRG 908A. I just installed one. It looks really hinky to me. The instructions say to recheck the torque after the first 100 miles and then every 1000. I'm real nervous. What say you Big Gearhead or any one else that has run one?

Some people use the spacers and have no problems at all. Others have used them and had problems with the ring gear bolts breaking or with the ring gear being centered on the case. Look at this picture http://community.webshots.com/photo/55410292/55410552ePqBsq Notice the machined area just above the ring gear flange. This is for centering the ring gear. Sometimes the spacer moves the ring gear away from the flange far enough that the ring gear can not be centered by this machined surface. If you decide to use the spacer you should test it first. Use some machinist die on the machined surface and put the spacer and ring gear in place. Move the ring gear around some to rub off the die. Check the surface to see if the ring gear is contacting this surface enough to keep the gear centered.

big gear head - That makes sence. Thanks for the information. I have more questions that I have posted in a topic "10 bolt Posi info." Please take a look. Thanks again.
