Blown72Camaro 10-25-2003, 01:25:00 PM Take your time, dont force anything, and dont overtighten the valve body or pan bolts.
jakeshoe 10-25-2003, 04:57:00 PM BadKarma,
really nothing fancy to do with the TH350 kit.
FOLLOW the instructions in detail, their are some commonly overlooked items there that would be hoove of you to verify.
One,
File the support plate until it is FLAT.
Two,
Absolutely verify the manual shift valve, rooster comb, shifter cable adjustment.
You will have to temporarily hook up the shifter cable bracket to do so.
Take the time to do it.
This is covered in the instructions.
If you want to make it shift at a little higher part throttle rpm, leave the spring off the modulator. On a TH350 I USUALLY leave it on, as they tend to shift a little late.
Don't use the Racing only Pressure regulator spring unless you are racing only...
More isn't better.
If you want later WOT shifts when you take tho governor out you can disassmble it, grind the inner weights, drill a hole in the outter weights, and reassemble using 6D finishing nails.
I also do another mod to the TH350 TG kit for a slightly firmer 3rd gear shift.
Email me if you want it to be slightly harder or if you have any questions.
Badkarma 10-25-2003, 08:46:00 PM Thanks for the tips guys,Just needed a little shot in the arm for some confidance. But know it seems that I am on the right track and I'm looking forward to getting started tomarrow. Thanks again.
1978LT 10-26-2003, 05:41:00 AM Jake, thanks for that governor shift. Believe it or not, I have a TH350 that shifts WAY too soon at part throttle.
jakeshoe 10-26-2003, 11:04:00 AM The governor has little effect on the PT shift points, some but little.
You need to pull the modulator off then pull out the modulator valve in the case.
If it has a small spring on the end, remove it, then reinstall everything.
If it does not you can adjsut the modulator and see if that helps.
Then move on to the gov.
ChevyReb 10-28-2003, 10:08:00 PM I thought they only had Governor shifts in California...at least thats what I've been hearing lately.
ChevyReb
night rider 10-29-2003, 02:29:00 AM Jake will be able to answer this better than me, but here's my go at it.
All the transmissions I have used, used the Governor to control the WOT shifts (th-350, th-400, 700 r4) and I live in GA.
I think alot of people is getting the trans gov. and speed gov. mixed up, cali computer ECU controled cars used a speed gov. to limit the max speed (MPH) the car will go too. That and the trans gov. is no where near close to the same
jakeshoe 10-29-2003, 02:46:00 AM The governor converts vehicle road speed into regulated hydraulic control.
It uses the output shaft speed to centrifugally move a valve that then allows fluid pressure to act against various shift valves.
A TH350, TH400, 700-R4 all use the same basic design (same governor, different gears and weights).
Powerglide uses a different design and a 200-4R uses an altogether different design.
However they all serve the same function.
They do have a small effect on part throttle shifts but the modulator has a large affect on PT shifts and "overrides" the governor.
On a 700 or 200 the TV valve has a large affect on the PT shifts.
br80z 10-29-2003, 10:29:00 PM Get a big can of gasket remover, and a good scaper. The first shift kit I installed, I spent hours scraping off the old valve body gasket. and don't drop the little check balls. Other than the gasket it wasn't that hard, if you pay attention to the instructions. That was with a B&M kit, I assume the trans go wouldn't be too different, or is it???
