Ok, im an idiot. I pulled my distributor and decided to by a MSD one, I wasnt thinking and like 2 days later I went to pull the crank pully and balancer off. I wasnt thinking and didnt have the distributor in, so the engine rotated a little. Now I need to put the distributor in and have my timing right.

I performed a search and seen the yank plug #1 wait for compression stroke to push air out. But what im wondering is do i do this with the distributor seated where ever it falls in? and where ever the roter is pointing when its on the compression stroke and the timing mark is on TDC would that now be #1?

You're not an idiot, you just had a happy accident! Now you have an opportunity to learn something new. Get the timing mark up to zero when you feel compression on #1. Turn the rotor to wherever #1 plug wire is on the cap and drop it in. As it goes in the gear will rotate slightly as it engages the cam, turning the rotor some. If it rotates too far away from #1, pull the dist. up slightly and turn it one tooth. You have to kind of eyeball it. When it's lined up with #1, snug the distributor down some (but where you can still turn it by hand), fire the engine up and set the timing with the light.

Your oil pump shaft didn't move when you turned the engine... No distributor to make it move! :D
Rotate the crank to where it was and drop it back in place.

If you don't know where it was... Follow the instructions above.
