Lets say I changed my gear ratio from 3.08 open to a 3.42 posi and happened to ruin the 3.42 gears. I changed all the bearings in the rear end when I did the gear swap also.

My question is can I just put the 3.08 back into the car using the spacer that came out of it and just mount the ring onto the posi unit and not worry about it? Of course I know I'd have to check the back lash...but what else?

Also lets just say that the 3.42 gears gave off some severe vibration and slowly got worse to where they do it at all speeds.... could this ruin the bearings in the rear of the car?

Of course this is all hypothetical http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

The metal from the gears wearing will get into the bearings and could ruin them. If you have the original shims and know exactly where they came from then you could possibly put it back the way it was. There is a chance that the new bearings are not the same thickness as the originals and this could throw things off a little. If this is not the original differential then the differential shims won't be the same.
