MyBoTy 03-12-2010, 08:06:37 AM Casting numbers don't mean anything. Are there any stamped numbers on 'em? 2,3 and 4 are the only ones you need to worry about.
Cardinal 03-12-2010, 08:25:47 AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are numbers stamped on the right side of the caps in the picture. I can barely read them but they look like 2, 3, 4. The "diamond" cast into them on the left points to the front.

yup, tell you the truth i never seen them stamped numbers before looking at this picture very closely..
what about them bolts , are they good to go???
thanks guys
74RAT 03-12-2010, 08:19:13 PM street engine,, i use the stock bolts. install the caps back into position and feel at the parting lines for overhang. they should fit perfectly. see if they show hone marks. if so,, they'll match in angle and such like a puzzle piece. if they're line bored caps and block,, it'll be harder to tell from the bore markings. the overhang at the parting line gives it away pretty quickly. same for rod caps. keep em' to each rod. same i.d. applies. hone marks tell the story,, chamfer widths match, overhang,,, etc..

markw 03-12-2010, 09:05:27 PM Read this before you install the rear main cap. Good information. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173259
1972L 03-12-2010, 09:32:54 PM Your rear cap has roll pins that align and retain the oil pump.
These should be replaced with solid pins.

yblow 03-20-2010, 01:59:02 PM Someone stamped those numbers 1,2,3,4 so they wouldnt forget were they went(in order) and the arrow is from the factory points toward the fron of the motor.
trmnatr 03-20-2010, 03:00:03 PM Ron,
Looked at your pics and sent you an e-mail
When you take the rings off and put new ones on let me make a suggestion. From the top ring to the top, Tape up with masking tape then put duck tape over the macking tape only (dont let this tape touch the piston)
What this will do is protect the anti detonation grooves from the ring removal and install, also will protect it for those who have coatings which does not apply to you
