When I got the new gears in I replaced the pinion yoke. The old one required the use of a conversion U-joint and looked as though the driveshaft had got away from it a few times. Now with the new pinion yoke I can't get the drive shaft in. I need at least another 1/4" maybe even more. Has anyone ever had this problem? And I figure if there is someway I get it into place, when I lower the car down on it's wheels wouldn't the driveshaft put pressure on the back of the tranny? Any help would be great, thanks.

Also the new yoke is from a truck 12 bolt I'm pretty sure. Mine was all beat up and this one was given to me by a freind. We called Randy's first to make sure it would interchange and they said it would.
The old yoke looked like it was drilled out to use u bolt style straps for the u-joint.

Got your old one to measure total installed height ??

If you took a truck pinion yoke, ring and gears, it's VERY possible you will need a shorter shaft. It's common when swapping rear ends to need a shorter shaft too.

New yukon gears and Detroit EZ-Lock in the coil sprung passenger car 12 bolt I have. As soon as this damn rain stops I'll compare the heigths of the yokes.

Well the yokes are different heigth. No more then 1/2" or so(I need a micrometer) but now I'm wondering what is the correct way to determine the new length I need. Since the difference was not a whole inch I think the slip distance with the old yoke was incorrect aswell. What kind of damage can this do to a trans? Thanks
