How do I tell if my torque converter is a 2500 stall?

It's real hard to find this out, since there are so many variables, and the same convertor will stall at different RPMs depending on these variables, especially torque output of the engine. In theory you should be able to stand on the brakes and bring the RPMs up, and there it is, but in my experience, I can't hardly get the RPMs up much over 1000 without the tires spinning. The closest I can do is to watch where the tach jumps up to when I leave a stop sign.
