Gary S 03-10-2010, 09:51:16 AM My guess would be that your starter isn't engaging properly in the flywheel. CamaroMan79 03-10-2010, 11:50:20 AM My guess would be that your starter isn't engaging properly in the flywheel. I agree. DoTheDew 03-10-2010, 12:01:39 PM Yup. Try adding a shim. borjawil 03-10-2010, 12:22:02 PM adding a shim where? havent worked to much on car engines mrdragster1970 03-10-2010, 02:37:10 PM . I did the search for you. Here's 200,000 answers for you. installing a starter shim (http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=shimming+a+starter&aq=7s&aqi=g7g-s1g1g-s1&aql=&oq=shiming&fp=ab529a0fe761a36d) . borjawil 03-10-2010, 03:04:40 PM awesome thanks! BondoSpecial 03-10-2010, 03:33:09 PM Grinding while cranking means you have too much clearance. You need to add one or more half shims, around the bolt further from the oil pan. This is according to the instructions that came with the new SBC starter I just installed on my truck. If you get noise once you release the key, not when cranking, then it said you need to add full shims to bring the starter further from the flywheel. craigblock 03-10-2010, 08:16:42 PM I've always done it using this method below, and had nothing but success. http://craig.backfire.ca/img/chevy-starter.png borjawil 03-11-2010, 08:55:59 PM awesome thanks for the help. KansasTwister 03-11-2010, 09:01:06 PM Could be the bending drive going out of the starter. Mine started doing it a while back on the truck. Assuming all the teeth are good, its probably the bendix, especially if it never did it before. |
