Hello, i have a set of heads not sure how to tell if they are good or not, i dont want to put them on my motor without testing them. Is there a way to test them before installation somehow?

Both casting #'s on the heads are 462624, and i was also wondering if these heads were good for performance? i have a 350 bored .30 over and i was wondering if i should use those heads on it?

I dont know if they were off a truck? or if they are swirl port (if they even made them those years)? i dont know what to look for, can someone help me out with anything?

Sorry i didnt get any pics (i will)

Thanks

joe

Large chamber lightweight castings. Might be ok to install and go but I wouldn't put any money in them or expect real performance.

So dont use those heads?

I want a bit of performance, i have a completely rebuilt bottom end and i dont want it to go to waste and settle with just average on this motor, i want some power. i will just let it sit until i find some good heads if those ones wont give me what i want

thanks.

if you want "some power", skip any stock head and pick up a catalog. Playing the game of trying to figure out what stock head is slightly better than another is a waste of time, they are all pretty bad if they are Gen I, un ported heads, that have unknown miles, and will need, minimally, a $250 valve job and potentially guides.

OK cool, thats why i ask lol, i don't want to waste my time, i'll wait until i have the cash to buy real good ones (im in no hurry). I got these heads on a parts lot and i don't know that much about heads, so i thaught i would ask about them.

so when i do look for new heads what would be a good set for my engine (not draggin just want some street performance)? and being it is bored .30 over is it classified as a 355 now?

thanks

I would pass on using those 624's,save your money for something like Vortecs at least. It will be well worth it.

Vortecs with the matching intake that's required. Have to watch the valve lift though, some limited with those heads unless they are reworked. Really wake up a 350 engine though for not a lot of money. My choice would be to go with some aftermarket aluminum modern heads, but the price goes up quite a bit.

i was also thinking of going edelbrock performer (cam/heads/intake), where did you get the e-street heads for that price? is that a normal price for them? a guy local is selling a set of aluminum performer rpms for $1000 obo brand new (is that a good deal?).

thanks

Take 30 seconds to look them up on Summit and see what they go for new. Price will be for a single head.

Depending on your lift requirements, they sell kits to finish out the heads for around $140

edit: Or you could buy the heads complete from them for $898 pr.

I have a brand new set of aluminum sbc heads L98 vette heads.

Also have a set of rebuilt Vortec heads sitting on shelf. I spent almost 800 on them last year if I remember correctly having them done in London machine shop. Used them briefly but need bigger different head for my new roller motor.

They are both for sale with receipts from machine shop.

yeah i think they are center bolt valve covers, don't really like those.

i'm just gonna go with the heads i have and bring them to a machine shop, i was thinking of running 58cc 305 HO heads but it will be for awhile so i dont want to blow my engine, or have to clean the carbon every so many clicks.

so the ones i will use are 76cc, 2.1". there good for 4 brrl so i'll ues them until i can get some aluminum ones or find a good set of second hand 64cc camel humps.

but thanks for the info guys

London, Ontario. Gotta read carefully! I've been imaging Simon's typing with a British accent all these months, myself.

Kinda like Paris, Texas or Ontario, California. Or how about Levittown, PA vs. Levittown, NY? Both towns were built by the same guy who obviously loved to slap his own name on everything.

You all think I am some regular bloke huh.

LOL

Ontario CA......is not quite the size of Ontario Ca.....matter of fact you could put Texas & Louisiana inside Ontario Canada.

If I was in England it would be very scary driving on that right side.

It's not scary...you get used to it. In fact if you have open headers and a blower it's scary for the other road users........
