Combustion gas is getting into the oil and turning it black. May take some more time to seal up. GoldenOne7710 03-08-2010, 01:35:40 PM That's pretty common on a newly rebuilt engine that hasn't fully broken-in yet. Some of it is probably just moly assembly lube. Just make sure you're using a good quality oil filter to catch the extra stuff so it doesn't circulate in your engine. CNC BLOCKS 03-08-2010, 08:16:34 PM I am sure the block was not plate honed, Do a leak down test at TDC as that will answer your qestion. We build a lot of circle track engines and the guys with rags around their breathers as did not have thier blocks plate honed and even after 3 years of racing they still need the rags around the breathers so I would say the the rings really never get broke in. The cylinder in this pic is from a 502 bought new that was using a oil and I would say by the looks even with a 100,000 miles these rings were not going to break in. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y276/CNCBLOCKS/glazed.jpg DoTheDew 03-08-2010, 09:06:46 PM Take it out and flaunt on it really hard for a couple hours but don't overheat it. Building up pressure by running it harder will help seat things down quicker. CNC BLOCKS 03-08-2010, 09:57:47 PM Take it out and flaunt on it really hard for a couple hours but don't overheat it. Leak it down at TDC and see what you have got. Louich 03-08-2010, 11:11:44 PM We have seen guys 3 years of cirle track racing and still have not seen them seal.
