What is the difference from a 427 tall deck block and a 454 tall deck?

I don't believe there ever were any 454 tall deck blocks made. As far as I know, the tall deck was made only in 427 and 366.

I don't consider the bowtie stuff a stock block.
They are made for racing, and would not really be considered a 454" block in my book.

I used the 427" TD years ago, and loved them.
They were very popular in this area so you can use a 400 rod, longer stroke, or both.

We were just discussing these blocks a week or two ago, and they are decent up to 100 over.
After that, they can be a little inconsistent, and too weak to run hard.

Good luck with the gen v stuff.

The Gen 5 stuff can be a pain with it's squirreley coolant holes. Be aware that choices of crankshafts will be limited, that block uses a 1-piece rear main seal. You'll also get all the fun that comes with installing a tall deck (headers, hood, etc.).
A lot of the new 427TD blocks I've seen on the market are "seconds" with screw-ups somewhere that caused 'em to fail factory inspection.
Why not stroke what you have?

Now can i use heads from a std deck and mount them on a tall deck block? I want to use the tall deck for use of longer rods and more room to play with.

You should be able to use your heads, but will need a different intake.

Heads are the same, the TD intake or spacers are required.
If you use a spacer, then you need a specific dist also.
My last couple of intakes used a standard dist, which was nice.

well if you build a tall deck for a blower i have a nice 8:71 blower tall deck intake manifold for you :)

I will keep that in mind i have a fuel injection set up but its for a std deck block. I going to see if edelbrock makes a manifold so ill just swap the injection rails to that one.

I also have a single dominator intake for a TD for sale. I switched all mine to tunnel ram, so I will never use it again.
I bought it new, and had it ported & gasket matched. It's the good edelbrock with nitrous or injection bungs.
The picture was before I had it media blasted.
