I'm replacing my accel cable but have no idea how to attach it to the pedal rod. Does it come apart somewhere to feed through the rod hole? Help.

When you look at the top of the pedal there is a rod. There should be a slit in it where the cable can pass thru and there is some sort of plastic retainer that sits in the rod. you'll see what I mean when you look at it.

I have the rod out of the car and there is no slit in the hole to slide the cable through. Does the cable come apart somewhere for installation?
