im working on a car with a noise from the rear end. every thing is ok until you get up to about 25/30 mph. when you let off the gas and coast and then get back on the gas you get a clunk from the back of the car(i think its the rear end). i took the diff cover off
and could not see any noticable damage inside. all other suspension parts are tight and universal joints are good. i was thinking of removeng the drive shaft and checking the pinion bearing. can anyone think of something i have overlooked ?

Sounds like a good idea, check the pinion bearings. You should also remove the cross shaft in the differential and check it for excessive wear.
