that summit cam is ok but you will loose some bottom end,
this is a l82 cam... look at this, i used it on my stock 350 after freashoning up and she pulled good..http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/200003/10002/-1yes stock pushrods and springs ok with either cam
change to 64cc head like some patrot alum. ones then install the cam and your gonna feel one heak of a difference.these come with springs and you will need hardened pushrods.

Edelbrock Performer Cam or Comp Cams 268H. A big enough cam that it'll give you more power but not so big that it'll kill idle vacuum to kill power brakes.

What did you use in the way of lifters. I'm looking at a couple of cams in that neighborhood, similar to your Jegs. Could still use that cam with a desent set of lifters. :)

...I 2nd the regular CC 268 or a CCXE 262, they will work great in a stock motor, from my personal experience in 305's and 350's ,just my.02,DC:bowtie:

This cam is the old Crane 274H06 and is a good cam to use if you want a lopey idle with lots of low and mid range in a low c.r. 350. It will have 14" of vacuum at 1000 and 11" at 800. You may need a mild stall but it will probably work with a stock converter. You could also use the Comp 268 cam(actually the 274 cam is basically the 268 cam ground on a 106 LSA rather than the 110 lsa of the 268 cam.) Isky 264 Mega cam with 214-214 dur. .450 lift on a 108 lsa would work well in your combo too. That summit cam is the same Elgin cam you can get from competitionproducts.com under part #E1785PM for $99 including lifters. Nice rump rump cam for a stock 350. Chad on this site has used this cam on several different engines and I have 2 friends using in their 350's and they really like it too.

I have vortecs with a little cleaning on the exhaust ports. How would these single pattern cams work out for me. My gearing is 3.42. :)

You need to find out what the rear gear is....those year cars with autos came with some of the worst ratios ever.If you're going to tell me it's a 2:56 or 2:73 or maybe 2:43...I'm going to tell you to forget about a cam and spend money on the rear gear.

You put a 268, 270 or 274 cam in a stock 79..like 8 to 1 "if that" 350 with an automatic and a 2:56 rear gear, and I promise you that thing will be a dog, and you'll be getting left at the stoplight by the kid on the bicycle next to you. Give me a break.

A 1979 stock auto Camaro?? I got news for you that stock rear gear may suck more than you think..check it.

Whats your CR?

Thats the single most important detail in cam selection.

It would be if you rebuilt the motor to match, had the gearing, and yes you can use the stock push rods and springs, although I would recommend not as a little insurance.

8:1 comp without gears, go with the Comp HE 252.
Add gears Comp 260
Add 9:1 comp w/gears Comp 268
The 252 and 260 can use the stock pushrods and springs, so can the 268, but the Z/28 springs won't be a bad choice for the 268.

Agree with hhott and Desmo. Those other cams are too big for your combo, IMO.

...Had the CC268 in a 77 monte [ 4000lbs]with a stock 305 , performer intake ,holley 600 ,headers ,2;56 rear ,ran 15 flat, killed new monte ss's in the day in the 80's , used both the CCxe 256 and 262 in 305's in winter beaters [ 83 4 door regal , 2 door cutlass] , idled like stock also , pulled very well , with also a performer and stock quad.carb and exhaust manifolds ,no problem on the lower end with torque on any car , all cars had either 2;56 gears or 2;41 's , just my .02, DC :bowtie:
