View Full Version : 4 post lift suggestions?
72ss4me 12-22-2009, 08:58:56 AM Thinking of getting a 4 poster to work on my cars and add storage. There seems to be a lot of confusing info out there. Obviously want to by American, but there seems to be a lot of debate etc, about who makes the safest lift.
Anyone out there have any and any feedback? Thanks.
twozs 12-22-2009, 11:21:57 AM this might be in the wrong section . the projects section might be a better place for it . in that section there is a sub-topic called garages, workshops and tools or maybe the BS section. this is about original cars and drive train stuff.

Anyone out there have any and any feedback? Thanks. Before I bought I researched every 4 post on the market and the Backyard Buddy is far and away the best on the market. It is made in America and its design and safety features are light years ahead of any other on the market.

They cost more, but as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for..."

On mine you could mount the pump diagonal of were yours is,to make using the lift easier
The post it's mounted on (looking at it) instead of be,far left it could be close right
cobra_4 12-24-2009, 08:02:48 AM Personally I don't like the back yard buddies. The posts are small, doesn't feel as sturdy to me. I ll have to look at what brand ours is but we've had it for ten years with ZERO problems. It has a lot bigger posts, was about the same price, and is sturdy even with a full size truck on it.
RD400HP 01-14-2010, 02:40:53 AM I like my Backyard Buddy,I looked at quite a few 4 posts lifts. Not all of them but the ones that I found at swap meets , shows etc. if they were not bolted to the floor you could not use them , I can roll my B.Y. Buddy just about anyplace and put my car on it. Its nice to roll it outside the garage and work on your car in the natural light.

Might just be the picture but that lift post (near the left front tire of the Mercury) looks bent.
DWAmmons 01-18-2010, 10:42:02 PM I too have Backyard buddy, went with the taller one and I love it. Others may be fine but I really like my car is resting on pieces in slots not on a welded tab.
l16pilot 01-22-2010, 03:18:27 PM GPM...what is your ceiling height...10'? Just trying to get a feel for "stackability" as my shop has a 10' ceiling.
l16pilot 01-22-2010, 03:42:25 PM Further to Chuck's suggestion regarding The Garage Journal discussions....here is an interesting thread....

+1...between the 4x4 square steel posts, not a formed "C" channel with an "anti- spread" bolt at the top, and the solid 1" steel tab that sits in the slots on the post, not on a weld, I sleep better at night...
Due to the irregular grading I have over 11' in the doorway of the bay on the left...I am standing on the higher elevation when I took this picture...

The car up top is a Corvette and clears the doorway with plenty of room... the lift manufacturers will give you minimum height specs for use...
